Had a 9pm reservation and I arrived a bit early and they were able to accomodate me on the terrasse. It was quite a nice setting, right at the exit of the funicular station with a view on the bell tower on one side and Ljubljana on the other side. Waiters were dressed en livrée and looked very professional. It took a while for the waiter to come back to provide menu and explanation. They offer a tasting menu of 5 or 7 dishes with the opportunity for a wine pairing. You can also choose a la carte. The night I dined, the option were fish or lamb for the main and I went for the lamb. To start off the meal there were some complimentary amuse bouche provided. It was a declinaison of pâté, Chicken pâté in the form of a cherry covered by a cherry and beetroot gelée, foie gras mousse and a third in a half mini onion. A second set of amuse bouche was a declinaison around trout, a trout espuma and a trout dumpling. First dish was a venison tartare marinated in Barolo, wrapped in light pickle topinambur with a hazelnut cream. Very good combo. Second dish was a cauliflower, poached egg and truffle combo. 3rd dish was a declinaison on pepper, followed by the main the lamb and a delicious peach based dessert that was amazing for us fruit based dessert lovers out there (#tiredofchocolate). I really the setting was lovely (take a date there if you want to impress) and so was the service as for the food I did not enjoy some of the combination but the wine pairing made up for it.

This is an amazing experience and a must when in Ljubljana! The food is incredible and world-class! Every dish was better than the next, complex, interesting, and delicious! The service was great, our host really took care of everyone and made sure our experience was perfect. This was one of our favorite experiences on our trip so far.

One of the best meals of my entire life! My partner brought me here for my birthday and we decided to have the 7 course meal. Although the portions were small, due to its Michelin star rating they were expertly combined and delicious. Cannot fault our server who knew everything about every dish and helped us pick a local wine to go with our meal. Everything was plated so beautifully that we almost didn't want to disturb the plate but the flavour combinations were incredible. The views over Ljubljana were stunning on the clear night and we will definitely be back. Only tiny tiny detail was that this particular restaurant in the castle could be signposted better as we struggled to find it.

In front of the magic scenery of the Ljubljana castle on one side, and the city of Ljubljana below on the other... That alone was a beginning of something beautiful for the night. We've decided to gor for a 5 course menu, which comes with additional two greetings from the kitchen and additional desert at the end acompined with a vast selection of local wines. The food was mesmerizing, flavourful and of course eye catching. Congrats to chef Igor. Also the team serving us, was professional, very educated and extremely kind. Would definitely recommended visiting the place. 👍

We wanted to try out Slovenia's fine dining scene and chose Strelec out of a few options. Hands down, best restaurant experience we've ever had. We sat outside, and the view of the city was gorgeous. We got the five-course tasting menu with wine pairing, and everything down to the presentation was impeccable. Our waiter was outstanding--perfectly attentive, personable, and extremely knowledgeable about all of the dishes, especially the wines. We got a surprise extra dessert from the chef at the end. You absolutely need to go here.

Een van de beste eet ervaringen uit mijn leven. Elke gang was fantastisch. Elk gerecht was lekker, met de saus bij de gevulde peper als uitschieter. Nog nooit zo'n geweldige tomaten salsa gegeten. Het personeel is vriendelijk en vakkundig. De wijnen waren heerlijk. Het uitzicht vanaf de burgt is fantastisch. Heerlijk plek voor een zwoele avond.

Lovely experience in a very picturesque restaurant, well worth the money. We went for the 5-course tasting menu with a glass of wine each, and also began with a glass of fizz, which was a great way to bring in the evening. The service was wonderfully courteous and all the dishes described comprehensively and explained very well. The highlights were the cold trout starter with roe, as well as the chicken liver pate amuse bouche. The brioche served with the venison tartare wrapped in artichoke was also excellent, as was the cottage cheese-filled gnocchi surrounded by a cheese foam and onions... Absolutely divine! We each had a meat main and a fish main, and both were very nice indeed, especially the carrots with my lamb that was served pink. The only rather odd pairing was the Greek yoghurt and pesto with the lamb, which was very tasty on its own but didn't really go with the lamb. The poached peach dessert with the rosemary ice cream was also very pleasant, as also were the complimentary canelles for afters. Downsides? The marshmallow and white chocolate canape at the end was a bit too sweet, and the sourdough served with smoked butter at the start was lacking in flavour and salt. Also slightly disappointing was the cauliflower and couscous cold starter, and I could taste vegetable oil on the cauliflower, which always ruins anything it is applied to. The same goes for the crisps on the venison tartare, which otherwise tarnished a gorgeous starter. Overall, this was a very good meal and we would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Ljubljana and fancying a fine dining meal. However, do bear in mind that to get in to the restaurant, you will need to purchase a castle entry ticket, which is a pity because the castle itself is disappointing, but that is another story altogether!

Très bel endroit dans le château de Ljubljana. Service parfait. Nous avons pris le menus 5 plats, il y a avait en plus des amuses bouches et des miniardises. Les plats étaient fins et délicieux. L'accord mets-vins en sus était parfait, une découverte de vins slovènes. Nos deux jeunes enfants ont pu avoir un bon plat de pâtes. Je recommande.
