Returning from the main square we came to the Tavern. An international cuisine festival was held. We were delighted with the great flavors of Indian, Thai, Hungarian ... cuisine. The history of this building is more than interesting. The inhabitants of Koper were engaged in the production of salt as early as the 12th century, there are written sources which mention the salt industry in 1182. For the sake of salt storage, a San Marco salt warehouse was built, which is today called the Tavern. In addition of Tavern, there were inns, where fishermen and fishing boat owners met. When the saltpans were abolished in 1912, the building was remodeled and intended for fish market, trade, storage and catering.
