Nice experience. Can go up by gondola or walk up (10 mins). There are two towers from which you can see the city, one of them you have to pay. But in my opinion, the free tower gives you a beautiful enough view.

Worth visiting. Impressive castle om top of the hill, so great views. Also a very nice park surrounding it. You can get there by car, on foot or take the elevator from the city center.

The Castle of Ljubljana sits on the central hill that is prominent in the old part of the city. It's important to know that the top of the hill, where the castle is, can be reached on foot, bicycle, and car from different pathways. The least energy consuming pathway is the Gondola lift, located to the north-east of the hill. The use of this lift is only possible by buying a full castle tour ticket. The Castle ticket is normally 10€ if you buy it up, and 13 if you want to catch the lift. An additional fee can be paid for an audio recorded guide. The devices communicate wirelessly with the exhibits so that you can just walk around and the recordings will change accordingly. The Castle is very well maintained but the whole experience remains on the commercials side of things. Not a good bargain for the cost, but nonetheless an iconic tourist destination. Perhaps a lot more interesting and enjoyable are the small streets around the hill of the Castle, with characteristic buildings and the central water canal. At the Castle itself the visit is divided into different exhibition sites, with the high tower being somewhat the highest attraction. The exhibition sites focus on historical events in the history of Slovenia, including the more recent independence from Yugoslavia. A short but steep walk down the hill will take you back to the old town.

Pod hrad je možné dostať sa viacerými spôsobmi okrem pešieho, autom (parkovisko priamo pod hradnou bránou, neplatené, pomerne veľké) a prostredníctvom lanovky. Hrad z vonkajšej strany vyzerá naozaj ako krásne. Vstupné je pomerne vysoké, ale adekvátne vrámci cien hlavného mesta. Ako milovníkov histórie nás veľmi sklamalo celkové prevedienie opráv hradu, ktoré sú nazvané ako revitalizácia. Tak extrémne necitlivý až násilný zásah sme neočakávali. Ak na hrad idete kvôli nadšeniu zo stredovekej histórie, radšej dvakrát popremýšlajte. Ako sme zistili neskôr nieje nutné si pre vstup na hradné nádvorie platiť vstupné, avšak bez stupeniek (nezahadzujte ich!) sa do niektorých expozícii nedostanete. Pre mňa najzaujímavejšou časťou pevnosti boli kaplnka (prekrásne pôvodné, citlivo reštaurované fresky), väzenské cely (využívané na pôvodné účely ešte začiatkom minulého storočia počas prvejsvetovej vojny), studňa s dômyselným mechanizmom na vyťahovanie vody (nachádza sa vonku pred hradom pri parkovisku, pôvodný mechanizmus mal pochádzať ešte z obdobia Ríma) a poslednou zaujímavou časťou bola expozícia s archeologickými nálezmi a vykopávkami (mince z čias Ríma a osmanský jatagan). Celkový vzhľad pevnosti (z vnútra) pripomína nechutný americký disneyland, komerčné miesto kde sa na históriu z vysoka kašle... miesto je vhodné pre deti aj starších ľudí. Najvhodnejšie je však pre ľudí, ktorí od tak starého miesta nič neočakávajú, ako nadšenec histórie veľmi ťažko zaplačete (pre tento typ ľudí návštevu neodporúčam, podobný zážitok môžete mať aj na rozostavanom vlakovom nádraží či pri inej železobetonovej stavbe). Wc je platené (keď vhodíte mince, vypadne lístok a na chvíľku sa uvoľní turniket, naozaj len na malú chvíľku rychlo prejdete, inak budete musiet platiť znovu alebo preskočiť, tak ako aj ja).

Very nice city, and the castle is also great to visit, but if you go you will need at least 2 days to see all yoi have to see.

You can approach the castle by foot, cable car, car or by little train :) We went by walk, it's not difficult to go to the top, it's nice and green and you can reach it in 10-15 minutes. Before enter the castle you can buy the ticket to the tower. Inside the castle you can drink a soft drink which was very nice on a warm day. The castle is clean and nicely renovated. We also saw 3 weddings on that day. The view from the tower was beautiful. The museum was interesting. We had a lot of fun and we definitely recommend it to anyone. Enjoy it!
