Amazing architecture that withstood centuries of history, it's a beautiful spot to visit and is worth even with the effort of climbing/hiking castle hill.

I was bitterly disappointed.
The renovation has completely obliterated the heritage of this castle. The materials used for that, have no relevance or sometimes resemblance to the originals. Large glass facades overlooking the inner yard, modern restaurants and so on. Thankfully, one may still find some originals still surviving between renovated stuff. The whole thing looks like a Hollywood-made attraction, open for visitors to spend money on treasure hunts, drinks at hosted restaurants and bars, a jazz club and other revenue generating sources, in a blatant and leveling manner. Shame!

The modernisation has completely destroyed any semblance of authenticity.

Beautiful castle but be prepared to pay more to experience more as the basic ticket is four areas, one of which was sadly closed at the time of visit. Funicular railway was cool! Also you have to pay to use the toilets so make sure you have cash on you!

There is much to see and great views over the town. There is also a Slovenian wine bar with 100+ local wines and a terrace with a view. Walk or take the mini tram up for 13 euro. Small museums up there and a nice park to walk in. Also a small wine yard. The castle has been rebuilt many times and some parts are almost 2000 years old and others less than 100. Lots of history . There is also a few restaurants up there and prices are ok. A few hours is a good time for visit, walk in the park and wine tasting after. Wine tasting with 7 wines cost 18 euros.
