This is my go-to place to recommend to friends and family visiting town. A small place operated by a single person with a small menu of incredibly amazing Indian food that is well worth visiting before trying the competition here. This is an obligatory stop if you like the cuisine. Vegans and vegetarians are understood and should feel very welcome here. I'd particularly recommend the baigan balti and the rice is excellent. The vegan naan used to be great and if it becomes available again, it'd be worth paying extra for the added labor. If you don't know much about Indian cooking, the chef, owner, and front-of-house is happy to explain anything about the food that you are curious about. He might also recommend that you don't order a dish as non-spicy, perhaps by asking you to carefully read the sign at the entrance. <3 Don't let that scare you away - the lowest amount of heat offered won't actually be overbearing for newbies with gentler palates. My folks all survived fine and happy so far. :) I eat here more often than anywhere else in town. Whenever my long-distance partner, who has an Indian mother, is about to visit, they keep talking about going to Zaika. Is that what is keeping our relationship alive? No. It is strong because we love and respect each other. And Zaika. EDIT: my partner just advised me to revise that "No." into "maybe"

What a treasure of a truly authentic dishes and flavours! Just gorgeous. The tandoori oven adds so many additional flavours and texture to already superbly prepared plates. Really appreciate one can meet and talk directly to the chef Mr Ziauddin who will generously walk you through the steps of how dishes are prepared. It's the hidden jewel and definitely my new go-to ethnic restaurant of choice in Ljubljana !

The food was finger licking good, I have never tasted better Indian food in my life. And the host is such a chill guy to be around. The place even offers some more tables right in front of the main building so we could dine in. And he offers Vegan food!! Definitely worth it.

Total unscheinbar. Ich habe hier tatsächlich wegen der guten Bewertungen gehalten und weil wirklich nicht viel los war. Ich habe mich dann an den einzigen Tisch draußen gesetzt (man sollte vielleicht überlegen, einige mehr aufzustellen). Die Jungs waren echt korrekt, der Preis, den ich bezahlt habe, war zwar 70-80 Cent höher als im Online-Warenkorb, aber da sowieso noch Trinkgeld dazugekommen wäre, ist dieses jetzt eben quasi etwas höher ausgefallen. Der Laden macht jetzt nicht den ordentlichsten Eindruck und auch nicht den saubersten. Das Essen hat auch ein bisschen auf sich warten lassen, weil die Jungs erst mal mit den anderen Gästen quatschen mussten. Geschmacklich war es jedoch echt solide. Das Garlic Naan Brot war zwar ein bisschen angekokelt, aber das Chicken Biryani hat wirklich solide geschmeckt. Die übertrieben positiven Bewertungen kann ich jetzt nicht nachvollziehen, aber mit einem Besuch macht man absolut nichts falsch.

AUTHENTISCH indisch essen. Hier kocht der Chef selbst, alles wird frish zubereitet. Das hausgemachte Naan Brot aus dem Tandoor Ofen ist der Wahnsinn! Ich würde 6 Sterne vergeben.

This little gem in Ljubljana is more like a small eatery than a traditional restaurant, with just two or three tables inside and a small table outside. Across the street, there's also a small room with several more tables. We were lucky enough to grab a seat outside, and the food we ordered was absolutely delicious—some of the best Indian cuisine we've ever had. The restaurant is tucked away in a small alley, so it’s a bit hidden, but it's definitely worth seeking out. Highly recommended!

Das indische Restaurant Zaika ist etwas versteckt in einer Seitenstraße von Ljubljana gelegen. Auf den ersten Blick macht es erstmal einen unscheinbaren Eindruck. Es gibt die Möglichkeit drinnen und draußen zu sitzen. Leider ist das Platzangebot sehr begrenzt, so dass es sehr schnell voll wird. Es gibt keine Möglichkeit zu reservieren. Das Angebot ist sehr gut, es gibt eine große Auswahl an veganen, vegetarischen Speisen und Gerichten mit Fleisch. Auch gib es Beilagen, wie Naan oder Reis. Das ganze Restaurant ist eine One-Men-Show, das heißt, dass der Koch alles macht. Er ist aber sehr gut organisiert und alle geht relativ schnell. Alle bestellten Currys waren sehr lecker, auch der dazu bestellte Reis und das Naan waren perfekt. Bei den Currys mit Huhn und Panneer ist Vorsicht bei der Schärfe geboten. Auch der Mango Lassi schmeckt sehr gut und ist nicht zu süß. Auch wenn das Restaurant von Außen nicht den besten Eindruck macht, sind die Speisen unglaublich lecker und ich würde immer wieder kommen.
