I want to be as factual as possible and share my experiences with this boat dealer. I bought a Merry Fisher 805 in summer 2020, which was built in 2001. So, a boat which was 19 years old. I was actually very happy when I found out about this dealer, because he was offering a wide range of used Merry Fishers, boats which are very interesting for the Adriatic. On top of that, they were all imported into Croatia, VAT paid, hassle free etc. What Pronautika actually does, at least with my boat, is to buy these boats in France, or anywhere else, and get them to Croatia. So I was happy, because it saves you from doing the same yourself.
It was advertised as being 100% like new. It was of course a boat which was 19 years old. The outside appearance was very nice; antifouling was new, the boat was nicely polished, the inside looked nice and vacuumed :-)
What you have to know, is that you cannot try the boat in the water, as this dealer is sitting near Zagreb. Which is a definite drawback in my opinion.
Anyway, things looked great an I bought the boat. Pronautika was actually very forthcoming as they took my old boat and took care of selling it, which again was a great service! Thanks for that. They also installed a bow thruster on my demand, which they did very well! Thumps up!
The boat was delivered to ACI Marina Optaija, where I had a berth in the water. This was the first time I was actually able to test the boat.
In the coming days I tested the boat and noticed that a lot of steam was coming from the engine (Volvo Penta TAMD41P). OK .... it was clear to me that I had to service the engine. In the end I spent 2000EUR as a lot of things had to be replaced. I also noticed, that the battery charger did not work at all. I challenged Pronautika that this should have been checked and should actually be covered by the "guarantee" they offer. Pronautika refused, which I did not find very nice. Another replacement I had to do.
Otherwise things were OK.
In autumn last year, the antifouling had to be renewed and I got the boat out of the water. At many places I saw some bubbles on the hull. Osmosis. So I got the entire hull sandblasted and the damage was apparent. Not so bad but still. The entire hull had to be redone with Epoxy ........you just have to know that this can happen. When the boat is standing on the land in Zagreb, with a new antifouling, you obviously do not see these things. I am not saying that Pronautika was aware of this ..... I will never know. I am not saying that this will always be the case. What I am saying is, that when you buy a used boat you need to be aware that these things a part of the game.
If you would be buying a boat in France yourself, you would probably face the same challenges. In the end it was not a new boat. But also be aware that the boats are nicely painted, polished etc., which do not always unveil the possible deficiencies. That is all I am saying. You always take a risk, when buying a used boat.
To post that the boat was "100% like new" was certainly misleading. Anyway, what to expect from a 19 year old boat, which was used in the Atlantic. As I said these things are part of the game.
In future I would probably not buy such an old boat anymore. Again, the fact that you cannot test the boat in the water is a drawback.
Also note that a boat which you cannot easily trailer, you will not be able to quickly bring it to Zagreb for the dealer to check. You will have to deal with it locally yourself. You just need to know that.
