In Nazarje, at the confluence of the Savinja and Dreta rivers, stands the Vrbovec Castle, which since 2001 has housed a museum. It represents the history of forestry and timber industry in the Upper Savinja Valley, as the region is one of the most wooded areas of Slovenia. Nearly three-quarters of the area is covered by forests, which in the past have had a significant impact on the local people, their way of life and work. For many centuries, wood has been a major source of income for a large portion of the population. Until the Second World War, the livelihood of the natives was closely linked to the exploitation of forests, the processing and sale of timber, which is still an important natural asset today. People used to work as forest workers - olters going to the woods for logging and harvesting wood, as fossiers marched on rafts, they were timber traders and sawmakers at sawmills. They used their daily bread as carriages and many with carpentry and carpentry. So when we visit the Vrbovec Museum, the Museum of Forestry and Wood Industry in Nazarje, we are addressed with booklets about the museum.
