The railway station is quite big for a small town as Prestranek. The interesting fact is that when the station was built in the 19th century, Prestranek did not yet exist. The station lays between Postojna and Pivka, on the once so called South railway line that connected Vienna and Trieste during the times of the Austrian-Hungarian empire. At first the plan was to built this station near the village of Slavina, just a few kilometers away, but the villagers were apparently against it, because they were afraid that the trains would scare their horses. This is the reason why the station was built in the open terrain instead. Only later the town of Prestranek was established around it. The building was officially opened on 28th July 1857. After the end of WW1 Prestranek was part of Italy and the station became the border post between Italy and the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. Nowadays it is not renovated nor in perfect conditions, but in a way it still reflects the importance that once held.😺
