Jakob Franc gostilna was recommended to us by Mariana at Hotel Galleria as the place to go for authentic Slovenian food. She was even kind enough to book us a table for the evening.
Jakob Franc's meals are mostly based around pork and, more specifically, a local breed of pig. We had a pâté starter, followed by smoky sausages with Slovenian sauerkraut, and roast pork with mash and carrots, and all dishes were utterly delicious. We've certainly never tasted mash and carrots like it, and the pork just fell apart. We also tried the cheese dumplings, which I believe are a bit of a speciality, but they weren't entirely to our taste.
All of this needed something to wash it down, of course, and alongside a jug of water we chose a cabernet sauvignon from the Slovenian wine list, which proved to be a good choice.
The total bill was €65 which we thought was excellent value considering the quality of the establishment and attentiveness of the staff, and we would definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting Ljubljana.

Prijetna gostilna. Vendar ne za vsak dan. Je predrago.
