Who knew that a sculpture made of concrete could be so... riveting? Hats off to Fredi Thalmann for turning the most boring, unnatural material imaginable into a masterpiece at ETH Zurich's GLC building. I mean, concrete? Really? What next, sculptures made out of drywall?
But seriously, this piece is a testament to what can be achieved with a little creativity and a whole lot of cement. The fact that it was preserved and integrated into the new structure is a triumph of art and architecture. Shoutout to Urs Beat Roth for the collaboration – clearly, two heads (and a whole lot of concrete) are better than one!
If you're ever in Zurich, swing by the GLC building. Who knew that staring at a block of concrete could be so inspiring?
